Feature Friday: Kelly Lulu

Today's Feature Friday is all about the shop "Kelly Lulu" on Etsy!

Kelly Quinn is the owner of Kelly Lulu & she offers organic, natural, eco-friendly baby products in her shop! When it comes to cloth diapering...she can set you up! She also offers reusable nursing pads as well.

As many of you know, I'm expecting my third baby at the end of December & I thought that this time I'd be more consistent with using cloth diapers. I've used them with my other two, but I've never been all cloth.
I'm gonna try using prefold diapers with snappies & covering them with waterproof diaper covers that I'm making myself...when I have time!

Feature Friday: Petite Tuques

Today I want to share a great Etsy shop with you & tell you a bit about the sweet little surprise that I found in my mailbox the other day!

Lisa is the owner of Petite Tuques & she lives in Quebec, Canada. She offers knitted hats, mittens & scarves for babies, teens, & adults plus she has a great line of Twilight inspired items in her shop as well! I've known Lisa for almost a year now from my coaching website - MeaganVisser.com - & I know that she works hard making her shop & products great for her customers. Her products have even been featured on tv so that's saying something!

So the other day, I was on the way to visit my hubbie at work - a daily routine for myself & the boys - & I stopped to check the mail. I was blown away by what I found inside!

Lisa had sent me a hat & pair of mittens for my new little man that's coming in December! 

Again, I was blown away! She hadn't said anything to me about it. It was just so thoughtful that she would send me such a great gift.

Now let me tell you a bit about what she sent.

The hat has little ear flaps to keep little ears warm & a tie to keep it securely on baby's head. She included a pair of matching mittens that also have ties so I can keep them on his hands! They are SO soft! I really wish I could describe it to you so you could know exactly what I'm feeling. It feels like you're rubbing a cat's back.

     This is Terra, the owner of Terra's Treasures. Terra is a seller from Twin Falls, and she sells super cute clothing and accessories for children and infants! Tell us a bit about yourself.

   I'm a stay at home mom raising two wonderful little boys, Dylan (2) and Taylor (6months).

How did you come up with your shop name?

   My mother actually came up with it. She told me one day that I should start my own shop and call it Terra's Treasures.

When did you start crafting?

    I've actually been sewing since I was a little girl, but it wasn't until I had kids that I fell in love with making little clothes.

What first made you want to start selling your creations?

     I would make things and I had so many people tell me how cute they were and that I should sell them. I was already selling a few things here and there to friends.

Describe your creative process to us.

     It could happen anywhere. I'll see something that I like or realize a need and then it's all I'll think about until it takes a shape. (a little obsessive? no comment....)

What inspires you?

    My husband. He's a very hard worker and always applies all of himself in whatever he does.

How do you promote your work?

   I have a facebook page and a blog that I'm trying to get up and running. I just need to be a little more disciplined and post more often. I think it would be a great way for people to get to know me better and for them to see some of the creative process I use to make things.

Are your items pre-made or made to order?

   Both. I have some things I sell that are custom orders and I also have some ready to ship things that I make when I have spare time or that are left over from a craft show. 

Tell us two short-term goals you have and one long-term.

   Two short term goals I have are to actually sell something in my shop and to organize my time better so I can be more productive. (Bad facebook! I can spend way too much time on there). My long tern goal is to be successful in this endeavor so that when my children start school I won't have to go back to work. 

Walk us through a typical day in your life.

8:00- Get up, get the children up and everyone breakfast. Have a cup of coffee and check email.

9:30- Get the kids ready for the day, get myself ready for the day.
11:00- Baby goes down for nap. Take time to clean, pay bills, etc.
12:30- Lunch
1:30- Toddler goes down for nap, baby gets up from nap and gets lunch.
2:00- Work on patterns, sewing, research ideas.
4:30- Toddler gets up from nap, baby goes down for second nap.
5:00- Get started on dinner.
6:00- Dinner and spend time with family.
8:00- Bath time and get kids ready for bed by 8:30.
9:30- Sew, work on patterns, research ideas.
12:00- Bed. 

What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment?

   My favorite item is the ruffle bottom pants. I just love ruffles.

What advice would you give to artists who are new to Etsy?
    Same thing I tell myself daily. Keep plugging along, someone is bound to notice you!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

   Hellow!!  My name is Angie and I run The Country Chic Cottage. I am a full time working wife and mother to three great kids. I stay busy with my blog and etsy shop. :) 

How did you come up with your shop name?

   I started my blog long before selling on etsy and it just made sense for them both to be the same.

When did you start crafting?

    I sell vintage and handmade items for your country cottage!  I have been crafting since I was walking I would say.  I basically taught myself to sew and I love it!!

What first made you want to start selling your creations?

    Gosh, too many ideas for my cottage!  When a nest gets too full of creations, time to open an etsy shop!

Describe your creative process to us.

    Mostly I come up with things in the car or in bed.  No I don't sleep much....

What inspires you?

   Other blogs, catalogs, etsy stores, brick and mortor stores, thrift stores you name it. I see something at a thrift store and see what it can become not what it is. 

How do you promote your work?

   Through my blog, other blogs, twitter, the etsymom team.  I love to cross promote with other blogs that have etsy stores.  It is a win win!

Are your items pre-made or made to order?

    Everything I have currently is premade.  With a full time job, I feel I would not be able to commit to a time frame to have custom work completed in.  So I stick with all ready to ship stock.

Tell us two short-term goals you have and one long-term.

   1)  I really want to get to 7 sales a week consistently.  

     2)  List 100 items in my shop.
Long term -- grow my blog and my etsy shop at a level that is comfortable for me. 

Walk us through a typical day in your life.

  I am up by 5:30.  I etsy and blog in the morning.  I try to list 1-2 things a day.  Three kids dressed and out for school by 7.  I head to work.  I thrift store hop at lunch.  I get off around 5.  I try to take some pictures, etc before it gets dark.  Supper, homework, dishes, tv, and bed (not necessarily in that order).  And start all over again the next day! 

What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment?

What advice would you give to artists who are new to Etsy?
     Get out there, get to know other people in the etsy community, blogs, etc.  It goes miles in getting sales!

     This is Laura, the owner of Laura Elaine Designs. Laura is a seller from Millbury, MA, and she designs and makes premade scrapbook pages! Now I love to scrapbook, but sometimes if I'm behind or in a hurry, I wish I had premade pages available so that I could just add my pics and be done. Well, Laura is our answer scrapbookers! I hope you all enjoy getting to know her as I have!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

   I am a 30-year-old wife, mother, and part-time Physical Therapist who enjoys running, scrapbooking, skiing, hiking, camping, biking and anything else outdoors.  My husband and I have finished many 5ks, half marathons, and marathons - we needed a place to keep our race bibs - that is how Laura Elaine Designs came about!

How did you come up with your shop name?

 I had a difficult time coming up with a creative name, so it's just my first and middle name!

When did you start scrapbooking?

    I have been scrapbooking since I was in High School.  When I had my son 2 years ago, a co-worker gave me a semi-premade scrapbook.  She had done most of the layouts and included extra stickers for me to add as I put in pictures of my son.  I thought it was a great idea and that is how I got started with Laura Elaine Designs.  Initially I was making more general scrapbooks - baby, kids' birthdays, weddings.  But then I started to just focus on Race Bib Scrapbooks and Premade Pages - it seems to be a unique niche that no one else has gotten into yet!

What first made you want to start selling your creations?

  I knew how awesome and convenient it was to receive the scrapbook from my co-worker and thought others could benefit from having a premade scrapbook.  With all of my husband's and my race bibs piling up, I also knew there were other runners who had the same problem - no where to store them!

Describe your creative process to us.

  Usually I am doing my scrapbooking during my son's nap time.  When I come up with ideas, I usually will write them down and save them until I can get downstairs to create.  When I am in the mode, I just go, go, go.  No music, no TV, no distractions or I loose my focus.

What inspires you?

   By running and attending races, I am usually quite inspired.  There are always runners of all ages, sizes and backgrounds completing the different distances.  It's amazing to see them all cross the finish line.  I try to target different audiences that are competing in the races - Moms, first-time marathoners, first-time runners. 

How do you promote your work?

  I have a blog that I promote through, and I also have a facebook fan page. The EtsyMom Street Team is also another great way, and I am starting to be more active through them.

Are your items pre-made or made to order?

    Most of my items are premade, but I also have done a bunch of custom items.  I love to create custom items!

Tell us two short-term goals you have and one long-term.

   My current short term goal is to have my shop stocked up for the Holiday shopping. 

    My long term goal is to be able to have my Etsy shop as a consistent source of income for our family.

Walk us through a typical day in your life.

  The days that I work my "real" job, I work 10 hours.  That doesn't leave much creative time, so usually those days are left for blogging or perhaps listing an item that is already photographed. 

  The days that I am home with my son, I check emails/blogs/orders first thing in the morning.  Nap time, usually for about 2-3 hours in the afternoon, is when I head downstairs to my scrapbook room and get to work.  I always have an idea in mind so that I can start a new book or set of pages right away.  This is also the time that I used to photograph my items.

Once he is in bed at night, I head back downstairs and finish up any loose ends - finish up the page or book that I started earlier in the day, package up any items that need to be shipped, and check emails/blogs again.

What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment?

   My favorite item has to be the one that I just finished creating yesterday - New York City Marathon Scrapbook.  My husband just ran the marathon this past Sunday and he was definitely my inspiration for the book! (PS - If it doesn't sell by Christmas, I'm keeping it and filling it with pictures of Hubby from this past Sunday)
